Anthony CAILLET fait partie de cette nouvelle génération de musiciens passionnés et dynamiques, qui allient un solide bagage instrumental à une curiosité permanente. Concertiste avide d'expériences, il s'efforce de proposer un éventail toujours plus large de possibilités, allant du récital, de la musique de chambre et de l'orchestre symphonique à la création contemporaine, en passant par le jazz et les musiques improvisées.

Il débute l’Euphonium en Ardèche et après les diplômes finalisant ses cursus dans les écoles de Musique de Valence avec M. BARTHALAY et Villeurbanne dans la classe de M. DELANGE, il intègre en 2002 la classe de M.FRITSCH au C.N.S.M. de Paris où il obtient en Juin 2005 un D.F.S. (Diplôme de Formation Supérieure, « Premier Prix ») d’Euphonium Mention Très Bien à l'Unanimité avec une Mention Spéciale de Félicitations et un « Premier Prix » de Musique de Chambre Mention TB.

Parallèlement à ces études, il se distingue lors des plus prestigieux concours internationaux et remporte en 2003 un deuxième prix au Concours International "Prestige des Cuivres" de Guebwiller (France) et en 2004, un premier prix au Concours International de l’ITEC 2004 à Budapest (Hongrie) et un premier prix au Concours International de Cuivres de Jeju (Corée du Sud).

Depuis, il se produit occasionnellement avec les plus grands Orchestres et Ensembles de Cuivres : l'Orchestre National de Lyon, l'Orchestre National d'Ile de France, l'Opéra de Paris, l'Orchestre National de France, l'Orchestre de Paris, l'Ensemble de Cuivres de l'Orchestre de Lyon, l'Orchestre National de Lille, le Grand Ensemble de Cuivres Magnifica… Il a notamment joué sous la direction de Alan GILBERT, Michel PLASSON, Jun MARKL, Moshe ATZMON, Jukka-Pekka SARASTE, Mstislav ROSTROPOVITCH, Jean-Claude CASADESUS, Hartmut HAENCHEN, Christoph ESCHENBACH, Andrey BOREYKO, Daniele GATTI, Alain ALTINOGLU. Il participe en 2009 à l'enregistrement de l'intégrale des symphonies de Mahler en DVD avec l'Orchestre de Paris, sous la direction d'ESCHENBACH.

Il donne régulièrement des master-class et se produit en soliste avec orchestres symphoniques, orchestres d’harmonie, brass-bands, ensembles de cuivres ; en récital avec piano, accordéon, percussions… Professeur au Conservatoire Maurice Ravel du 13ème arrondissement de Paris de 2009 à 2011. Ces diverses occasions de fouler la scène l'ont entraîné dans de nombreux pays : Allemagne, Angleterre, Belgique, Chine, Corée du Sud, Ecosse, Etats-Unis, Finlande, Hongrie, Italie, Pays-Bas, Portugal…

Conscient des manques dans le répertoire trop peu fourni de son instrument, il est commanditaire de nombreuses œuvres dont il réalise les créations : Maxime AULIO, Jean-François BAUD, Arnaud BOUKHITINE, Eri KOZAKI, Paul LAY, Marc LYS, Franck STECKAR, Paulo PERFEITO. Il a aussi créé des œuvres de Sylvain BŒUF, Michaël LEVINAS, Sabine MALNOURY-GAMET, Dominique PAUWELS, Eric VALDENAIRE, David WOOD...

Sa soif d'apprendre, de découvrir et de multiplier les expériences le portent à aborder le jazz et les musiques improvisées ; à jouer, au delà de l'euphonium : les saxhorns basse, baryton et alto, le trombone à pistons, le flugabone, le sousaphone, la trompette et le bugle… Il étudie notamment avec François THUILLIER, Nicolas FOLMER et Pierre DREVET et devient trompettiste au sein de l'Electro Deluxe Big Band, sousaphoniste d'un quintette dirigé par Stan LAFFERIERE, euphoniumiste de l'Orchestre Franck TORTILLER et joue fréquemment en duo et trios avec François THUILLIER.

Membre de l'Orchestre de Cuivres et de l'Orchestre d'Harmonie de la Musique de l'Air de Paris, sous la direction de M. KESMAECKER depuis 2004.

François Thuillier was born in 1967 and belongs to the new generation of tuba players, renowned for their knowledge, enquiring minds and inventive style and known for playing a wide range of jazz and improvisational music with symphonic orchestras.

He began his music career in Doullens and then, after various awards in the ‘Music Conservatoires’ of AMIENS, LILLE and ROUBAIX, he was offered a place in the CNSM (the Conservatoire de Paris) in Paris in 1986, where he was taught by F.LELONG and received 3 first prizes in Saxhorn, Tuba and in Chamber music.

At the same time, he registered in the CIM (School of Jazz and Modern Music) in the Jazz Composition Department and continued his musical education with PH.LEGRIS, who was known for his work with contemporary music and musical theatre. He joined the ‘Gardiens de la Paix’ Harmony Orchestra in Paris in 1989 and since then has lead a career as a member of the orchestra, soloist and Jazzman.

Also in 1989, he met Marc STECKAR and his TUBAPACK, with whom he has worked regularly over the past 12 years and together they have created many recordings.

Since 1988 he has played all over the world in QUOI DE NEUF DOCTEUR with S.ADAM, R.ANDERSON, with Ars Nova, with C.BARTHOLEMEY, in the Intercontemporary Orchestra with P.BOULEZ (c.d. by DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON), with the Canadian Brass, the French Brass, Eutépé, Hexagone, F.JEANNEAU, D.LOOKWOOD, B.LUBAT, JM.MACHADO, M.MARRE, J.J MILTEAU, J.M.PADOVANI’S MINOTAURE JAZZ ORCHESTRA, Michel PORTAL, the Orchestra of Paris, Lyon Opera, the Radio France Orchestra, Y.ROBERT, F.ROSSE, L.SCLAVIS, STECKAR TUBAPACK and with B. STRUBER.

He currently plays with P.CARATINI’s JAZZ ENSEMBLE, A.EMLER’s MEGA OCTET, M.SOLAL’s NEW DECABAND, the COLLECTIF N’CO, the WONDER BRASS FACTORY, L’EVOLUTIV BRASS with I.MILHIET, G.MERCIER and N. VALADE, in the EUROPEAN TUBA TRIO ( S.CAROLINO, A.CAILLET) with J.L. POMMIER and C.LAVERGNE, in a trio with D.LELOUP and D.VENITUCCI and he duets with A.BRUEL and François KOKELAERE.

In 1995, he formed his BRASS TRIO with Daniel CASIMIR (trombone) and Serge ADAM (trumpet) and a duo with PIERRE ‘TIBOUM’ GUIGNON (percussion). As a member of these groups he creates many CD’s, gives master-classes and plays in many countries and prestigious festivals all over Europe ( Présences, Guebwiller, Eurocuivres, Episval, Le Monastier, ITEC in Budapest, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Lisbon, Tokyo...)

Being a brilliant soloist in all genres of music and a skilled improviser, he has turned his hand to new challenges; jazz and improvisational music, and has helped create many pieces for Harmony Orchestras - the Concertos of A.Emler (1996), J.M MACHADO (2000), JC. CHOLET (2003), M.LYS (2004), J.J CHARLES (2004), and J.P VANBESELAERE (2006); for Tuba and Piano – Y. GLOBOKAR (1997); for Big Band – CARATINI (1998); for Brass Band - S. ADAM, D. LELOUP (2001), Daniel CASIMIR (2007), M. STECKAR (1999); for solo and duo Tuba – C.JOUS, D.HAVET, S.KASSAP, P.OPRANDI...

He is an author of educational books (editors - COMBRE, LAFITAN and FEELING MUSIQUE ) and he is the proud owner of an Aptitude Certificate. He also taught in the Music School in Doullens from 1985 to 1995 and has taught in the Conservatoire in Amiens since 1995.

In 2000, he founded the MEGA TUBA ORCHESTRA, the Big Band of Tubas and drums in the Conservatoire in Amiens ( CD recorded in 2006).

In June 2005, he organised the ‘TUBA SHOW’ in Paris along with Jean Claude DECALONNE (FEELING MUSIQUE) and P.LEGRIS in honour of Marc STECKAR’s 70th birthday.

His discography includes almost 120 CDs with more than 15 to his name.

François Thuillier plays using a YAMAHA Tuba, a ROMERA BRASS mouthpiece (Spain) and SCHLIPFINGER mutes (Austria).

He has been the artistic director for the Jazz Festival in MONTINVILLERS since 2004 (http://jazzamontonvillers.fr) and is the artistic adviser for FEELING MUSIQUE in Paris.
